About BD Shades

Bartosz Dybka is the founder and managing director of BD Shades Ltd. He graduated from an Agricultural Technical School with a specialisation in Agribusiness before moving to Ireland in 2006 during a period of strong economic growth. His first opportunity came in painting and surface finishing, and over the past 20 years he has built extensive experience across the construction and restoration sectors.

He has contributed to projects of all scales, from historic monuments and churches to hospitals, universities, pharmaceutical plants, waterworks, and large-scale housing developments.

In 2018, he formalised this expertise by establishing his own company, hiring his first employee, and securing landmark contracts including the Laois GAA Centre in Portlaoise and 40 council-supported façade renovations. Through determination, client trust, and consistent delivery, the company has since grown to employ 40 people and has completed prestigious projects such as 112 high-standard homes in Straffan, the thorough renovation of the Convent Church in Kildare, and significant works on the New Children’s Hospital Project. Today, the firm is recognised as a reliable partner to some of the largest developers and contractors in Ireland.

Through his work, Bartosz has identified the opportunity to address the limitations of conventional surface preparation including abrasive blasting, chemical stripping, and manual cleaning. These methods often create dust, waste, and health risks, while being unsuitable for delicate heritage work. He has sourced a laser cleaning system that offers a modern, eco-friendly alternative. It cleans all surfaces without secondary contamination, uses minimal energy, and avoids unnecessary chemicals.

The technology has been successfully deployed in high-profile conservation projects such as the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, as well as castles and churches across Europe, and it has been approved by monument conservators internationally. To date, this technology does not exist at scale in Ireland or in Co. Laois, representing a clear market gap. By introducing it, BD Shades Ltd. aims to develop a strong service for not only the local community, but within the Leinster region. In its existing business, BD Shades Ltd. typically undertakes painting projects across commercial, industrial, heritage, and agricultural sectors, ensuring services are delivered with a strong environmental ethos.

The introduction of laser cleaning technology means surfaces can be restored without the use of abrasives or chemicals, thereby eliminating secondary waste streams and reducing environmental impact. By avoiding transport of heavy machinery or stonework off-site, the service also reduces cleaning miles and associated emissions. The process produces minimal residue, which can be safely managed on-site, and requires significantly less energy than traditional blasting. This eco-friendly approach aligns with growing consumer and industry preference for sustainable solutions. National and EU sustainability policies increasingly promote low-waste, non-toxic methods in construction and restoration, and laser cleaning is directly in line with these initiatives, offering clients an environmentally responsible choice while safeguarding Ireland’s built heritage and industrial assets.
